Learning How to Make Money Without a Job Changes Everything!
You do not need a job to make money. They do not teach it at school, but there are other ways to make money than by going to work every day. And in the world we live in today, we have so many possibilities. We can even make a living without ever leaving our home. Would you like to know how to make money without a job? I’ll share more details on that topic here. The easiest way to find out what you like doing and what works for you is to start an online side hustle.
Start an Online Side Hustle
Even though the expression “side hustle” implies that you do something else, you do not have to.
One side hustle may not be enough to make you a full-time income. But since they, by design, do not take up your whole day, you can have more than one side hustle. Just start with one.
You need to get familiar with your new business before you broaden out into a second one. Trust me on this one. Far too many new online business owners have failed because they did not focus on one thing. Once your first online side hustle makes a decent income, you can start another.
Before you go looking for “how to make money without a job” online and get overwhelmed with the number of replies, let me share this with you. It is important that you like what you do. You can make more money with something that earns you $20 per hour than $100 if you hate doing the $100-thing and therefore never get around to it.
Overall, there are two kinds of online side hustles:
- Services – you do something for somebody else and get paid once.
- Passive income – you work once and get paid for a long time after.
Services will often be best if you need money fast. It takes time to build a passive income, but it is worth it. In other articles, I will share services you can do as well as the best of the numerous passive income sources you can build. Whichever route you choose, it is important to set boundaries from the start.
Set Your Boundaries
If you are already out of job, you know this situation. One of your friends or family members calls you to ask for a favor. “Please look after my dog for two hours while I go to the hairdresser.”
You were just about to start today’s work on your side hustle, but – sigh – yes, that can surely wait. Of course, once your friend/family member is back from the hairdresser, to thank you for dog sitting, they will offer you a cup of coffee or to stay for dinner… And you get nothing done that day.
Sure, that is the worst case scenario, but it happens very frequently. Even more often, you will find your family peeking in on you to ask you a question or to share the latest dance hit on TikTok. For every quick interruption, you lose 20 minutes of concentration. Now that cute cat video that made you smile has cost you more than one third of the time you had set aside for the task you were working on.
You need to set boundaries from the start. If you do it later, right after you have exploded and hurt your friends and family, they will not understand. “But you used to have time to dog sit Bob, and he is such a good boy.”
Tell your friends and family about your plans and that it’s important to you to learn how to make money without a job. Wait until they have finished laughing at your idea of making money online. Do not argue with them. Just tell them that you are serious about this and that you will need two hours per day where you can focus only on your new business. They will not understand.
But stick to what you told them here and, over time, they will accept your crazy decision. Especially when you make up for it later with quality time outside of your best work-hours. Speaking of work…
You’re the Boss Now
You need to be disciplined enough to work when it is time to work. But you also need to set limits for your workday. It is way too easy to keep working when the “job” is fun. But that can lead to a burnout. Stop at a fixed time every day and then relax.
Focus on work when it is time to work, and on relaxing when it is time to relax. A boss does more than work, though. Those running almost any type of business also delegate work. They tell their employees what to do (at least at first). And you have nobody but yourself to do that now. This is a complete mindset change.
I suggest you pick a maximum of three things you need to get done that day. If you can do more, fine. But pick the three most important things. Preferably ones that make you money. Depending on what online side hustle you pick, there will be lots of tasks to do. You can write an article for Medium (produces money). You can get your picture taken and write your “About” page on a blog (does not produce money directly).
Even though you need to do all the tasks, prioritize the money-producing ones first and finish the others as quickly as you can. You can always come back later and polish your bio.
Be Patient and Stick to the Plan
This is the hardest part of becoming your own boss. When we start a new job, we do not expect to get paid at once. We know we will have to wait for 30 days. When we start an online side hustle to make money without a job… Then we want instant results.
That is not what happens. Making money takes time. If you can be patient now and give it one, three or even six months, you will be greatly rewarded later.
If you need money now, urgently, then find something you can do and do it for other people. It can be things like setting up a blog or writing articles. Just make sure to schedule time for your real side hustle and work on it daily.
The easiest way to do that is to start with a plan. Start with the end in mind. What will your side hustle look like once it is up and running? Then back step and make a to o list for every task you need to finish before you can get to the next one. Now you have a plan.
It is absolutely possible to make money without a job. You need patience and persistence. Pick a side hustle you like to do and every day will be a joy. Even the days you make no money. The money will come over time and it is important to spend your life doing something you like rather than letting a boss be in charge of your life.
How to Make $1,000 a Day Without Sacrificing Everything Else
The average hourly wage in the US is far less than $20.
If you were to make $1,000 a day in a day job, it would mean working more than 33 hours per day. Not possible. With an online side hustle, though…
You can do it by working two to three hours per day.
Starting tomorrow? Nope. First, you need to pick the right side hustle.
Next, you must be realistic and work towards your goal.
Make a Realistic Choice of Side Hustle
If you hear about a side hustle where you only have to read emails to get paid…
Chances are it is true, and it works. But you will only make cents, not dollars, even if you read emails for ten hours per day.
You need to pick a side hustle that is capable of making you $1,000 per day.
Plenty of side hustles can make you that much, though. Not the first day you work in your new business. But after a while.
Here are some very profitable side hustles:
- Copywriting
- Site flipping
- Domain flipping
- Fiction writing
- Affiliate marketing
- Running a YouTube channel
Are there other side hustles that will bring in the kind of money you’re dreaming of? Oh yes! You need to check it out. Each one of those side hustles has the advantages and disadvantages. And each of them will be more or less easy for you to do.
If you have a knack for writing persuasive texts, then copywriting is for you. You can make a lot of money writing for others. And perhaps even more writing for yourself. Copywriters work on social media, write emails and sales pages.
Site flipping means you either buy an existing site for cheap and sell it for more. Or you build it from scratch and sell it. Site flipping can be extremely profitable and even beginners have sold their blogs for more than five digits. If you want to learn that skill, email me and I’ll share my most valuable resources with you.
Domain flipping is almost the same. Here you just buy the domain because you think the name itself can bring in money. You do not build a blog or a site. Just sell the empty domain. That too can be profitable.
It costs you nothing but your time to write and publish fiction. The most popular genre is romance. Romance readers will buy and read several books per day. If you write a short book a week, you can be making serious money after a couple of months. Keep doing it, and you can reach $1,000 a day or more.
Affiliate marketing can be extremely profitable if you have a good audience. The best way to promote other people’s products is through emails. So if you are a copywriter, you can combine the two side hustles.
You only need time to review the products and to write emails or blog posts about them. This can easily be done in two hours per day.
You need to set aside time to grow your audience, too. Spend one more hour on this every day. Or pay for traffic to join your list. This is faster but costs more money.
Some YouTubers make an unbelievable amount of money. The best ones of them do it by recording themselves doing something they love. Like gaming online. Or making beautiful hair cuts. You can find almost any topic on YouTube.
And you can get paid from ads (a little), from sponsorships and – again – through affiliate marketing or promoting your own products. Now, to get started, you need a plan.
Construct a Plan You Can Keep
Your first step towards success is to come up with a plan you can keep. This means you need to know how much time you can set aside every day for your online side hustle. Make sure to not overestimate your energy.
It is easy to think, “I can write 8,000 words a day and write a romance novel every two days.” And once you start, you may reach that goal on the first day. But afterwards, you will feel burned out and take a three week break. Success demands consistency.
Look at what skills you have now. Are they good enough to get you started? Great. Are these skills good enough to make you $1,000 a day? Likely not. You may need to invest time and money in courses and coaching/mentoring. It will be well worth it, because it is a shortcut that brings you closer to your goal. But you must consider it and be realistic about your plan.
Do Not Overestimate Yourself
Are there fiction writers who reach 8,000 words per day? Oh, yes. Even I am capable of writing up to five thousand words in a single day. I have close friends within the writing groups I am a part of do this, and seemingly with ease. But they did not do it from day one.
Be realistic about what you can do based on who you are today. Optimism is good, but not when it comes to planning. If your true goal is to write 8K words per day, start where you are and add a little more every day or week. Then you will get there.
Allow These Two Things to Work in Your Favor
Two important things will work in your favor if you let them. They are time management and productive persistence. You want to learn how to make money without a job and this lofty but achievable goal takes time and effort. Building your skills and abilities to a level where you can make $1,000 per day takes more than a couple of weeks to achieve.
You need to be patient and stick to your plan. Set aside the time you need, daily as well as weekly. Track your goals and your progress. If things go the wrong way, correct it as soon as possible.
If you want to make $1,000 per day, you must be self-motivated and ambitious. Since you are reading this, you most likely are both. So just go for it and you will reach your goal.
As you can now see, with the right skills and choice of side hustle, you can work as little as two to three hours per day and make $1,000 a day. Knowing how to make money without a job is worth the time and effort you’ll put into learning and taking action every day.
There will be no need to sacrifice time with family or friends. No need to never relax or go out for dinner.
You can do it all, if only you plan your progress and stick to it.
