If You’re Thinking Somebody Else is More Likely to Achieve Goals, That “Somebody Else” Just Might Be You
I went through most of my life not believing in myself. When there was something I wanted to do I told myself that others could do it, but not me. Even when I did manage to accomplish a goal I played down my role in achieving it. That all changed when I came online in 2006. A world of possibilities opened up to me. When I was willing to do the work great success followed.
My confidence and self-esteem improved and now I believe I can do just about anything. I’ve allowed this belief to spill over into my private life as well. Whenever I feel like somebody else would be the one to step up, I remind myself that “somebody else” is me. This occurred most recently when they opened up a COVID 19 testing center in my community. When I discussed with my friends the possibility of volunteering at the hospital for this project they told me I should let somebody else do it because it might be risky. After checking out the situation completely and speaking with people I know at the hospital I came to the realization that “somebody else” could be me.
I want you to believe in yourself, to the point where you know that you can achieve all of your goals and dreams. This all begins with the self-realization and self-awareness that you want and need to change your thinking, beliefs, and actions.
Self-Awareness is the Key to Recognizing What to Change
Self-awareness is the best way to realize what you want to change. Self-awareness includes being aware of how you are feeling towards a situation. You may notice yourself talking about wanting change to yourself or others. Even if you daydream about change, this is a sign that you are aware you want to change. Awareness is the first step.
What to Recognize When You Want Change
If you’re wondering how to recognize when you want to change, there are several ways. One of the most common ways is to keep your eyes open for situations that make you feel uncomfortable. When you notice an uncomfortable situation, it’s a good time to make a change to move on to a new situation.
Another way to learn how to recognize when you want to change is to look for situations that create tension. It could be present in your personal or professional life. This tension can often cause a lot of unhappiness and motivate you towards change.
Learning how to recognize your thoughts and feelings will help you learn when it is time to change. Understanding your thoughts and feelings towards situations makes it easier. You can go after things you want and avoid things that will cause you unhappiness.
In your personal life, there are a lot of things you can change. You may have some habits that you need to change. Pay attention to ways to live a healthier life, enjoy more of your life, and enjoy being the person you want to be. Start by noticing how you feel towards situations in your everyday life. Track your feelings and thoughts to know when it is time for a change.
Take Inventory of Your Thoughts and Feelings
Writing or bullet journaling your thoughts and feelings daily helps you become self-aware. Doing this shows you how you react to situations. Journaling helps with connecting triggers of specific thoughts, feelings, and reactions to them. It can help you gain more insight into the problems you face daily and what you want to change. Every morning I write in my journal as a way of checking in with myself as to how I am feeling. I do this before going to bed as well. If there is anything bothering me I like to address it head on so I can move forward in a focused and positive way.
Try starting your journal with a prompt. It can be as simple as “Today, I am feeling….” or “Today…” Write down how your day is going. You can start writing events that happened and how you felt and thought about them. Try to ask questions that focus on your thoughts and feelings to situations.
Ways to Become More Self Aware
You can perform several exercises to become more self-aware. Exercises can include meditation, mindfulness, and journaling. There are also quizzes and games you may wish to participate in to build your awareness of yourself. One of the most popular quizzes for self-awareness is the Proust-Questionnaire. French essayist Marcel Proust invented the quiz. It started as a parlor game. It gained popularity to build insight into yourself among popular magazines and psychologists. Another exercise comes by participating in a new card game called Go Wish. I’ve purchased a dozen of these to gift to friends and family members because I believe it’s so powerful.
Self-awareness and self-realization help to take us to a higher level in our lives. Reading and working with mentors has made a difference for me and now I look for every opportunity to enhance my life experiences in this way. I would love to know your thoughts on these concepts.
