Confidence and MarketingMarketing and Confidence for Entrepreneurs

One of my greatest joys is observing human behavior and how it relates to marketing and confidence. This weekend I watched some of the baseball series between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox and was held captive by how the players on each team presented themselves to the world.

Each player must win over the crowd, their teammates, and the coaches with a combination of their skills, abilities, attitude, and potential. Most important of all is confidence.

The closing pitcher for the Yankees lost his confidence before he stepped up to the mound and this cost them the game and the series in the final ten minutes of the game.  Even though he excelled in his ability, skills, attitude, and potential, his lack of confidence was enough to override decades of practice and he crumbled as the world helplessly looked on.

I’ve observed this marketing and confidence connection with entrepreneurs, though it isn’t as obvious unless they are speaking on stage or participating in a live event. Sitting behind the computer allows people to mask their thoughts, feelings, and actions until it is too late to recover. One comment on a blog post or social media, one criticism from a friend or family member and the level of confidence plummets beyond repair.

Soon this entrepreneur has given up hope of achieving the success they so badly craved when they began their journey and has given themselves many reasons for why this occurred as a way to justify their feelings.

I am reminded here of the Japanese proverb: Fall seven times, stand up eight. This proverb relates to our The Marketing and Confidence Connectionattitude towards failure, meaning not to let ourselves be bogged down by it but to welcome it as an opportunity to learn and grow. No matter what someone says to us or how we perceive the world to not be supporting us in our dreams, nothing is a reason or an excuse to give up.

If you are an entrepreneur you have more than likely already experienced some self-doubt or feelings of not being good enough to succeed based on a variety of thoughts around intelligence, experience, age, or talents and skills. These feelings manifest themselves as lack of creativity or productivity, time management issues, and projects abandoned. The further inside yourself you go, the more difficult it will be to come out of your funk and begin moving forward again. The solution for me when I felt this way during my first year working online was to volunteer in my community, surround myself with a new group of people, and to read and implement new ways of thinking and acting that made all of the difference. This enabled me to begin using the marketing and confidence connection to my advantage, and once I got moving I became unstoppable.

Marketing and confidence go hand in hand, in my experience and observations of the human condition. Boost yourself up at every opportunity. Surround yourself with people who are positive and supportive. Read and study everything you can in this area of personal development and become an expert on the most important subject in the universe: you.
