Habits of Successful Entrepreneurs

After working online for five years now, I have seen many people come and go. It seems like everyone is excited when they first decide to start an online business, but many fall by the wayside within a few short months. I have identifies some habits that are common to everyone who is successful, and those include positive believing, decisive action, and connecting with other successful people. I think of these as the everyday habits of successful entrepreneurs, and believe it is worthwhile to take a closer look at each one.

The first habit is that of positive believing. You notice that I said believing, and not thinking. That’s right, you must believe that your goals are possible and that it is simple a matter of moving from where you are currently to a place closer to where you want to be. By always acting as if you are on your way, you set yourself up for success.

Decisive action means that you review a situation quickly and make a decision as to how you will move forward. Once I recognized this as a success factor, I began to take a much closer look at how I made decisions. Years ago, while I was still a classroom teacher and working part-time in real estate, I would agonize over each decision I made. Should I take a day off to spend with my family? Should I make a purchase now, or wait until later when it might go on sale? It was an exhausting process, and I was continually second guessing my decisions. Over the past few years I have made my decisions very quickly. I review the facts and details, think about how I feel, and then decide. Practice doing this and see how good it feels.

We must connect with other successful people as we are moving up the ladder of success ourselves. Motivational speaker Jim Rohn said that we are the average of the five people with whom we spend the most time. I was made aware of this recently when I was on a trip with people who are interested in building an online business. The conversations I had with those who are already successful were very different from the ones I had with the people who are still finding their way to success.

Take these habits of successful entrepreneurs to heart, and focus on changing the way you think, decide, and behave. You will be glad you did.

    Connie,

Thanks for the great article! Being the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with is a new thought for me and makes perfect sense. Your advice is very valuable and most appreciated.

    Thanks again!

Connie – Sometimes I struggle with second guessing my decisions. One thing that has helped me in the past few weeks is something Helen said on a webinar. She was encouraging everyone to be bold and do things we’ve never done before because of some sort of fear. I have been embracing that lately and let me tell you, it feels great!

These are excellent examples of being a successful entrepreneur. I know that I have climbed my success ladder very consistently this past year and a great deal of that is due to taking action.

It is so much easier to talk about what we want to create for ourselves, so easy to see it and believe and even easier to read a book or take a class and feel like we are doing something about our goals. I have learned, from years and years of trial and error, that success can only come from doing what needs to be done, at the exact time it needs to be done. Real action, action that gets results and moves you forward.

I appreciate that you talk about action as something you do that is decisive. Decisive action reminds me most of the Nike motto…. Just Do It!!!

You are always an inspiration and one of the best role models for how to be a successful entrepreneur!! Thank you Connie. Keep at it, you are making a trail and path for many of us to follow!!

You’re very welcome Helen! It actually makes me feel good that I made your day! I was actually talking with my wife earlier today saying how we both need to be more bold and do things business wise we’ve never done before. Sometimes fear holds you back some.

As Connie said earlier, decisive action. Review a situation and boldly move forward.
