What’s the Difference Between Six and Seven Figure Entrepreneurs?
Besides the obvious extra zeros and comma, there’s the not as obvious mindset and manner of accomplishing goals when it comes to understanding the difference between six and seven figure entrepreneurs.
Mindset: It’s About Two Things: Confidence and Strategies
As a classroom teacher in the inner city of Los Angeles, California for twenty years I learned a lot about the level of confidence in children and its connection to their success in and out of the classroom. This became obvious to me the year I was assigned to teach Kindergarten.
At the beginning of the school year almost every child entered into my classroom filled with confidence and joy. Even if they were shy at first, they soon exhibited the qualities of approaching every new situation with the belief in their ability to solve problems, interact with others, and complete the tasks they were assigned. I marveled at this day after day and enjoyed my time working with these young people. They were attentive and focused and quick to get involved and discover something new about their world. They were confident with the strategies they had figured out and anxious to develop strategies of their own.
When I visited these same students at the beginning of their second semester as first graders, my heart sank. Almost every one of them had lost that creative spark and no longer possessed the confidence to achieve their goals. What had happened to the five year olds I had known just a year before? I struggled to find the answers and was not successful in doing so at that time.
When I came online and began working with other entrepreneurs I was determined to learn more about the connection between confidence and strategic thinking and the success of those who had made the conscious decision to leave the work force and start a business on the internet. What follows here are some of the observations I have learned about over this past decade.
Goals for Seven Figure Entrepreneurs
Start with the precept that you can achieve anything! Be confident in your abilities to determine the strategies that will serve you best. Be willing to experiment, test, collaborate, and share your results. Set goals that are bigger and more sophisticated than anything you can currently imagine attaining.
Spend Time Each Day Growing and Expanding Your Platform
Seven figure entrepreneurs start building a platform, long before they are even six figure entrepreneurs. How do you do this?
- Blogging on your hosted WordPress site to turn it into an Authority Blog
- Writing and publishing a physical book on your niche topic
- Speaking on your topic regularly, both in person and virtually
- Creating a series of products that solve problems in your niche market
- Reaching out to and connecting with possible Joint Venture partners
- Marketing your products and services to your prospects and customers
When it comes to starting your business, do you have a clear, concise, and high-converting front end offer?
If you are still in start-up mode (i.e. under $1 million in revenue), do you spend 80% of your time selling? And remember, posting free content, making videos, and podcasting does not count as selling. Let’s not confuse content marketing with selling.
Do you have joint venture partners sending you customers?
Have you analyzed your best sources of customers and created your ideal (most profitable) “customer avatar”?
If you have answered “no” to any of those questions, do not do anything for the next hour except for stepping away from your computer and filling in the blanks in your business so you may honestly answer “yes” to each of these questions.
Seven Figure Entrepreneurs Take Accountability and Responsibility to Heart
“Leadership is a way of thinking, a way of acting and,
most importantly, a way of communicating.”
~ Simon Sinek
Sometimes, many times, in fact, most of the time you are the problem. You have a better way. You’re busy learning everything this year so you can begin next year. You lose interest in the thing you were working on and find a new thing. You convince yourself that you are too young, too old, not a good enough writer, everything has already been done, you do not know the right people, and so much more.
Stop it!
Take accountability for your actions. be responsible for everything, yes everything that occurs in your life experience. Both the good and the bad.
You can take all the credit in the world for the things that you do right, as long as you also take responsibility for the things you do wrong. It must be a balanced equation.
You don’t get it one way and not the other. You get to take credit when you also take accountability.”
Good, Better, Best
They want to change lives, to share their voice with the world, to make a bigger impact than with only a book, a product, or a course.
Time Management and Productivity
Be willing to protect your time at all costs. Figure out when you are most alert and productive. These are your “prime-time” hours each day and must be utilized as such for superior results.
If you do what everyone else is doing, you’re going to end up with the same mediocre results as everyone else. If you continue to do the things you have always done, in the same way as you’ve done many times before you cannot expect different results. Isn’t doing this one of the definitions of insanity?
To get exceptional results you have to be willing to do what others are not.
Over the years I’ve realized that seven figure entrepreneurs are willing to:
- Invest their time in producing outstanding thought leadership to share with potential clients
- Produce regular (weekly or more frequent) blog posts, podcasts, updates to keep in touch and build relationships
- Master new technologies like webinars, podcasts, or online video
- Give up some evenings and weekends to build their marketing assets while still working with clients to pay the bills
- Ask for help whenever they need it
- Invest their time in research to develop new, valuable and unique ideas for their clients
- Partner with people who might be considered competitors
- Ask clients for referrals and run the risk of them saying no
- Turn down clients who aren’t an ideal fit for them
Just being willing to do a few of these puts you way ahead of most of everyone else.
What are you willing to do that others aren’t?
